Dear Clare Park Residents,
Quarterly Report from CPID Committee meeting – June 2024
As previously mentioned, our highly successful Camera monitoring system has been operational since the end of March 2022 – and allied to the February /March 2024 reintroduction of the Dawn Patrollers group – we continue to enjoy the lowest incidence of crime in the Claremont Area. Compared to most of our surrounding districts we are relatively crime free.
A special thanks to those residents who joined the Dawn Patrollers and to SAPS and FADT who responded to requests to increase their surveillance since the spate of incidences in mid-February, which resulted in the rebirth of the Patrollers – Once again well done to all.
Please note the following:
- As indicated in our last News Flash, negotiations with the City towards the establishment of a formal CID continue. Our last meeting was held in early June, during which the City requested we make a few further minor adjustments to our application. Understandably this is a laborious process, however we are ninety percent there! After receiving the Council’s approval, we will call a community meeting to discuss the proposal and thereafter vote to accept or reject this great community initiative.
- During our meeting with the City, one important requirement was that we launch an official website to ensure maximum communication going forward – we are addressing this.
- Over the last quarter we installed an additional two cameras within Clare Park and removed all foliage obstructing camera views. We also identified a blind spot on Malcolm Road – as a result we intend to install an additional camera on Malcolm. This will bring the number of cameras covering the Clare Park area to 50 and will complete the infrastructure required to fully monitor the area – The challenge going forward is how best we utilize this great layer of security.
- Thank you to those members, who pay their subscription on a regular basis, without community support none of the above achievements would have been possible.
- Finally – as mentioned in previous newsletters – within seven days after month end – we reconcile our accounts – and thereafter we make contact with those members who may have forgotten to pay their subscription – It would help us a lot if members paid their commitment by the end of the particular month.
- Please note that the steering committee sourced a loan of R500 000, which, together with a monthly service fee to FADT, must be repaid. If you do not contribute, ask yourself if you would prefer to live in a neighborhood without security cameras and join us by contributing R200 per month. Our banking details are as follows:
Bank: NEDBANK Account name: Clare Park Improvement District (or Clare Park ID) Account number: 1219105260 Branch number: 198765 Reference: Your surname, street name and number - We remind all residents that the CCTV cameras cover all roads in our area plus the walkway through WPCC and are actively monitored for an incident every night between 20:00 and 07:00. During daylight hours, the cameras remain operational but not monitored. Should you observe a suspicious incident, please contact the FADT CMC using one of the following numbers 083 557 5512 or 021 597 3505. As previously advised, please use these numbers sparingly. Should you require camera footage, you will need to report the incident to the police and obtain a case number. Our committee members can help you through this.
- Once again Thank you to all residents who support our efforts to maintain a safe neighborhood and establish a Community Improvement District.
Best Wishes – and Keep Safe
