Dear Clare Park Residents,
Quarterly Report from CPID Committee meeting – April 2024
Our highly successful Camera monitoring system has been operational since the end of March 2022 – and allied to the February /March 2024 reintroduction of the patrollers group – we now enjoy the lowest incidence of crime in the Claremont Area. Compared to most of our surrounding districts we are relatively crime free.
A special thanks to those residents who joined the Dawn Patrollers and to SAPS and FADT who responded to requests to increase their surveillance since the spate of incidences in mid-February, which resulted in the rebirth of the Dawn Patrollers – Well done to all.
At the beginning of March we also placed an additional three cameras – one on Milldene and two on Ranelagh Road to cover blind spots.
Please note the following:
- As indicated in our February News Flash negotiations with the City Council towards the establishment of a formal CID continue – after submitting all requested documentation at the end of 2023 – the City replied a few weeks ago requesting additional adjustments which we have complied with. It’s now back over to the city! Understandably this is a laborious process. We hope to have a wrap up meeting with the council shortly, after which we will call a community meeting to discuss the process in detail. One of their requests is that we launch an official website to ensure maximum communication going forward – we are addressing this.
- Over the next quarter we will be removing foliage obstructing camera views, where pertinent.
- Thank you to those members, who pay their subscription on an annual basis, for meeting their end March commitment covering the 2024 / 2025 period.
- Finally – as mentioned in our previous correspondence – within seven days after month end – we reconcile our accounts – and thereafter we make contact with those members who may have forgotten to pay their subscription – It would help us a lot if members paid their commitment by the end of the particular month.
- Please note that the steering committee sourced a loan of R500 000, which, together with a monthly service fee to FADT, has to be repaid, plus we also have to pay the monthly monitoring fee. If you do not contribute, ask yourself if you would prefer to live in a neighborhood without security cameras and join us by contributing R200 per month. Our banking details are as follows:
Bank: NEDBANK Account name: Clare Park Improvement District (or Clare Park ID) Account number: 1219105260 Branch number: 198765 Reference: Your surname, street name and number - We remind all residents that the CCTV cameras cover all roads in our area plus the walkway through WPCC. Should you observe a suspicious incident, please contact the FADT CMC using one of the following numbers 083 557 5512 or 021 597 3505. As previously advised, please use these numbers sparingly. Should you require camera footage, you will need to report the incident to the police and obtain a case number. Our committee members can help you through this.
- Should more members of our community join the CPID CCTV Project and contribute we can look at changing from 12-hour active monitoring to 24-hour active monitoring, which will be beneficial to the whole community.
- Once again Thank you to all residents who support our efforts to maintain a safe neighborhood and establish a Community Improvement District.
Best Wishes – and Keep Safe.
